McAdoo Still Growing Into Go-To Role For Tar Heels

Jan 26, 2013 7:21 PM

James McAdoo is still learning how to be North Carolina's go-to guy.

McAdoo went from playing behind three NBA first-round picks as a freshman to the top of the scouting report this season.

"The defense was never aimed at him — we still had Harrison Barnes, Tyler Zeller, John Henson and those guys," Tar Heels coach Roy Williams said. "It's a lot easier when the defense is not aimed to stop you. And now who do they talk about? They talk about James Michael and Reggie (Bullock). It's hard to handle that."

McAdoo has attempted at least 15 shots just five times all season.

"He wants to be one of the guys," McAdoo’s high school coach, Michael Allen, said. "He wants to show up and do his job and go home. That's just his personality. You're not going to change it. Part of you wishes he was just a little meaner ... but at the same time that's just his makeup. It is what it is. I don't consider it a weakness. That's just the way God made him."

Duke, UCLA, Arizona, Florida Now Pursuing JaQuan Lyle

Jan 4, 2013 8:38 PM

Duke, UCLA, Arizona and Florida have recently inquired about JaQuan Lyle, a 6-foot-4 point guard who is considered one of the top juniors nationally.

"(Those four) have all kind of reached out here in the last couple weeks with the great start that he's had," Lyle’s head coach, Shane Burkhart said. "That's added on to the 10 schools he had already come down to."

Lyle had previously cut his list to Indiana, Cincinnati, Georgetown, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisville, Ohio State, Tennessee, Texas and Xavier.

Lyle has recorded a triple-double in seven of his first nine games this season.

"This past week, we had a tough game against Thurgood Marshall (High School) out of Ohio, but he still had 14 points, eight rebounds and eight assists," Burkhart said. "Those are fantastic numbers, and he gets chastised because he doesn't have more. He pushes himself very hard to be an elite basketball player. He has to continue to grow maturation-wise, and has to understand how hard he has to work every day in order to be as good as he wants, but the start of the season that he's had has been matched by no other that I've been around."

Jabari Parker Received Injury Rehab Advice From Grant Hill

Jan 3, 2013 8:47 PM

Jabari Parker privately sought the counsel of Grant Hill while rehabbing from a fractured bone in his right ankle.

“I talked to Grant and he just told me not to rush the process with my injury,” said Parker, who last month committed to Hill’s alma mater, Duke.  “He had the same problems with his feet so he knows what that’s like.”

Parker has shown recent improvement, averaging 15.3 points and 8.3 rebounds at the Pontiac Holiday Tournament.

Parker was given the tournament’s A.C. Williams Award, becoming the first player to win the award three times.

“I don’t have the young legs anymore,” quipped Parker. “I’m old. I’m a vet right now.”
